Does self password reset exixt at windows enviorment

    Hi to all.

I’m new to Active Directory so a bit confused. Suppose a user locks himself out or his/her password expires. Is there any secure means that would allow the user to self-serve a password reset? Some guys at work said such exist and some say no. But after reading through some articles, it seems like you’re locked out of the network- you probably can’t even get in to the tool..!! Please advice on my question and moreover does Microsoft provides this facility, enrolled user at AD can unlock there password on himself. Thoughts would be appreciated.

    Hi Oaccord,

Thanks for the post. When a user account gets locked out (In the absence of administrative permissions), it cannot be unlocked by the same user and only an administrator can unlock the account. Yes, the network will not allow the user to log into the system. You can try out Lepide's Active Directory Self Service tool for password rest and account unlocking. It is a freeware for 50 users. A user can be provided with a right to unlock his own account and can reset his own password even if administrator allows the user to do so. Moreover, the same user can unlock his peer's account or can reset his coworker's password in his absence but again the administrator has to allow the user to do so. Lepide's Password Rest application is excellent approach towards such a highly frequent occurring issue which eats up more than half of the time of an administrator. You can try out the freeware and can get back to us for any queries you have.

    Hope it serves your issue.

    Thanks

However - this tool requires the person to atleast be able to get onto the web - and if he might be the only one working that day, or in a remote location with 1 computer, then this tool will not work - correct? There is no Windows Logon integration as other products have...

Yes, for now windows log-on integration is not there with this version but it will be in the next version of the program as it will come
    with gina settings.
