Identifying and Protecting PHI Within Legacy Healthcare Systems

Introduction

Whilst we are seeing a move towards the cloud, and an uptake in more integrated and systematic approaches to data handling (such as using big data to drive better patient outcomes), there still exists a vast amount of legacy data. There are also vast amounts of new data being created that isn’t being identified and therefore isn’t being protected and may present a risk.

This whitepaper will present a few of the issues and challenges that healthcare organizations are currently facing when it comes to identifying and protecting PHI. We will also go through the issues with legacy systems in particular, the challenges that unstructured PHI presents and our recommendations for risk mitigation.
